1. India’s first insect museum opened in Tamil Nadu

India's first insect museum opened in Tamil NaduA Rs 5 crore insect museum with the state-of-the-art amenities was unveiled by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswamy at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

The museum, established at a 6,691 sqft area, is fully dedicated to insects and claimed to be the first of it’s in the country.

It would display insects preserved as specimens as also live ones depicting their different developmental stages, images, videos and models of their unique behaviour, habits and habitats.

2. Win Myint elected as new President of Myanmar

Win Myint elected as new President of MyanmarMyanmar’s parliament elected Win Myint, a loyalist of Aung San Suu Kyi, as the new President, while the latter retained her executive authority over the government.

The vote comes as Ms Suu Kyi’s civilian government has struggled to implement peace and national reconciliation, with the powerful military still embroiled in combat with ethnic rebels and under heavy international criticism for its brutal counter-insurgency campaign against the Muslim Rohingya minority.

Win Myint, a close aide of Aung San Suu Kyi, has been a speaker in the lower house since 2012 and was widely tipped for the top job.

NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission Signs SOI with SAP GlobalNITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) announced the signing of a Statement of Intent (SOI) with SAP to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

As part of the SOI, SAP in 2018 will adopt 100 Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) for five years to nurture the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning among secondary school children across India.

The program aims to enable students to learn advanced technology topics relevant to digital transformation and the Internet of Things, e.g. Design Thinking methodology, introduction to programming languages and experiential science learning.

SARAS Aajeevika mela 2018 held in New DelhiSARAS Aajeevika Mela 2018 has been organised in New Delhi under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). It is one of the flagship programmes of the Ministry of Rural Development to alleviate rural poverty.

The SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2018 in New Delhi is an endeavour of DAY-NRLM to provide to the rural women producers a national platform and an opportunity to showcase their products and seek buyers, either individuals or bulk buyers for sale nationally/internationally.

The programme aims to organize the rural poor women into their own institutions like Self Help Groups and their federations, Producers’ Collectives etc. and also ensure their financial inclusion and livelihoods support.

5. Vijay Raghavan appointed as principal scientific advisor to govt

Vijay Raghavan appointed as principal scientific advisor to govtK Vijay Raghavan, one of the most distinguished biologists of the country, was appointed Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.

He will succeed 81-year-old nuclear physicist R Chidambaram, who has been in the position for more than 16 years, having been appointed in 2001.

Vijay Raghavan, a former director of National Centre for Biological Sciences, was appointed Secretary of Department of Biotechnology in 2013.

7. EPFO Launches Portal For Pensioners

EPFO Launches Portal For PensionersEmployees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) launched a new portal through which EPFO pensioners will get the details of pension-related information.

The portal will assist users with details like pension payment order number, payment order details, passbook information and other related information.

The enhanced “Track eKYC” facility for the convenience of members has also been launched to check the status of Aadhaar seeded against their Universal Account Number (UAN).
