Martin Vizcarra sworn in as Peru's new presidentPeruvian regional governor Martin Vizcarra was sworn in as the country’s new president of Peru, after his predecessor Pedro Pablo Kuczynski abruptly resigned over a corruption scandal.

Vizcarra, while taking an oath, has vowed to eliminate economic corruption from the country.

The 79-year-old, he had been the victim of the malicious campaign by the dominant political opposition and denied any wrongdoing.

4. Navy warship INS Ganga decommissioned in Mumbai

Navy warship INS Ganga decommissioned in MumbaiINS Ganga, an indigenously built frigate of the Indian Navy, was decommissioned in Mumbai after over three decades of service.

Commissioned on December 30, 1985, the ship represented a big step forward in the nation’s warship building capability.

The chief guest for the ceremony was Vice Admiral A K Bhal, himself a former crew member of the ship from 1989 to 1991.

The special guest of honour for the ceremony was Vice Admiral (Retd) K K Kohli, the first Commanding Officer of INS Ganga.

ISSF Junior World Cup - Manu Bhaker wins goldShooter Manu Bhaker secured India’s second individual gold after prevailing over Thailand’s Kanyakorn Hirunphoem in a thrilling final of the women’s 10m air pistol event at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney.

The 16-year-old Manu shot 235.9 to finish top of the podium.

India tasted success in the 10m Air Pistol men’s event too with Gaurav Rana winning a silver medal while Anmol Jain bagged the bronze.

Vivaan Kapoor bagged the trap bronze medal. The 16-year-old shooter secured bronze with 30 hits out of 40 clays.

The event comprising a total of 200 original prints are created by Indian and international artists of impeccable competence and is a window view into the giant strides in printmaking that is taking place in India and the world.

Pankaj Advani retains Asian Billiards Championships titlePankaj Advani defended his Asian Billiards Championships title in style by demolishing his practice partner B Bhaskar 6-1 in the summit clash in Yangon, Myanmar.

With this win, Advani remains the reigning Indian, Asian and world champion in billiards for 2017-18.

India’s Amee Kamani won the Asian Women’s Snooker title by blanking her Thai opponent Siripaporn Nuanthakhamjan 3-0.This is Advani’s 11th gold medal at the Asian level of cue sports.

9. JS Rajput nominated India’s Representative to UNESCO’s Executive Board

JS Rajput nominated India’s Representative to UNESCO's Executive BoardThe Ministry of Human Resource Development has nominated former NCERT director JS Rajput as India’s representative to the Executive Board (EXB) of UNESCO.

He has been awarded the Maharishi Ved Vyas award by the Madhya Pradesh government for his contributions in the education sector.

The EXB has a four-year term and 58 seats. It is one of the constitutional organs of UNESCO and is elected by the General Conference.

The next meeting (Session204) of Executive Board of UNESCO is to be held in UNESCO HQ at Paris, from 4 – 17 April 2018.
